Lady Commodores upset #21 Chipola
The Gulf Coast Lady Commodores softball team picked up a big win against #21 ranked Chipola College, coming from behind to earn a 9-5 victory. The win improves Gulf Coast's conference record to 8-9 and their overall record to 26-21, keeping their postseason hopes alive with just three games left in the regular season.
Chipola started off hot, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Commodores didn't let that shake them.
In the bottom of the third inning, Macy Robinette got on base with a walk. Cailyn Cooke followed with a single to move her to second. Another walk to Ainyah Stokes loaded the bases. Then, Tatum Hasting hit a fly ball to right field that allowed Robinette to score, making it 3-1.
The Lady Commodores exploded in the fourth inning.

Baylor McCluney got it started with a double to center field.

Then Kali Austerman hit a triple to bring McCluney home and tie the game.

Kiara Guzman hit a sacrifice fly that scored Austerman.

Emily Chandler reached base, and Cooke hit a ground ball that led to an error. That mistake let both Chandler and Cooke score.
By the end of the inning, Gulf Coast had taken a 5-3 lead.
Gulf Coast kept the pressure on in the sixth inning.

Aasia Scerbo came through with a single to center field, bringing in two more runs.
The Lady Commodores were now up 9-5.
Pitcher Kaylee Navarre came in to finish the game and was lights out. She threw 2.2 innings, didn't allow a single hit, struck out three batters, and helped seal the win.

South Atlantic District Softball Championship:
The Lady Commodores are currently third in the Panhandle Conference, just behind Chipola, who is in second place. Only the top two teams go straight to the FCSAA DI/NJCAA South Atlantic District Championship in Clearwater, Florida.
If Gulf Coast can't grab second place and can stay in third, they'll still have a shot in the Wild Card Game on Tuesday, May 6 at 5:00 PM EST in Clearwater, FL.
