Zavior Alvarez enters his first season as Assistant Coach of the Lady Commodores Basketball Program.

Coach Alvarez joins the program after a two-year stint with The University of Nevada, Reno Women’s Basketball program. Prior to the 2022-2023 season, Alvarez was brought on to the Wolfpack staff as a Graduate Assistant. In his first year as a graduate assistant, he was vital in all thing’s operations on and off the court.

Entering the 2023-2024 season, Alvarez was given the promotion to the role of Player Development, where he was given an active role in recruiting and on court coaching and development. Coach Alvarez assisted in seeing the Wolfpack to a 4th place finish in a highly competitive Mountain West Conference finishing with a .500 overall record and a 10-8 record in conference play.

Prior to Nevada, Alvarez got his start in the coaching profession as a Practice Player for The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Women’s Basketball Program before being elevated to an Undergraduate Assistant prior to the 2018-2019 season.  Coach Alvarez assisted the Miners staff in all aspects of the program in his four-year stint from 2018-2022. Tasks that included but not limited to, scout preparation, video coordinator, equipment manager, and practice instruction.

In his playing days, Alvarez was an All-City basketball player at Del Valle High School in El Paso, TX. He then went on to play point guard at TaylorMade Prep in Pensacola, Florida before returning to El Paso. Alvarez followed his playing career by receiving his undergraduate degree in Business Administration with a focus in Entrepreneurship from The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). To follow, Alvarez then received his master’s degree in Justice Management from The University of Nevada, Reno.
